The player's task is to sort 104 cards in ascending order and suit and put them in eight slots, one suit in each.

The rules for moving cards between columns in Forty Thieves are quite strict: you can only put suit on suit and only the lowest on the highest. The game has two options for assembling solitaire: easy, where aces are already on the bases, and heavy, in which the player himself must put aces in the slots.
